TIR’ (Transports Internationaux Routiers, or International Road Transport) is an international transit system based on a UN Convention, widely implemented in Public-Private Partnerships worldwide. For over 65 years, TIR has facilitated trade and international road transport by allowing customs-sealed vehicles and cargo containers to pass through countries following standard procedures.
According to the agreement signed in 1959, vehicles engaged in international road transport must carry a license plate marked “TIR.” These vehicles, although divided into two categories—tractor and trailer—are commonly used in Turkish to refer to any type of vehicle used for heavy tonnage transport.
